FINALLY A WAY TO ELIMINATE BOOM AND RIGGING SHOCK ON YOUR BOAT
Every sailor knows that when going downwind, rigging a preventer is the only way to ensure that your boom won’t suddenly swing 150º around, taking out your crew and crushing everything in its way. But rigging a preventer with enough tension so that the line doesn’t constantly stretch, snap and jar, putting massive stress on your cleats, boom and lines, is almost impossible.
Now there’s a better way. Just rig a SHOCKLES® between the boom end and the preventer, cinch it tight, and voila! – no more shock. The boom stays snug and secure with the SHOCKLES® gently keeping it in place without the shock and stress of a static preventer line, especially in gusty or shifting winds.
SHOCKLES® are made from the toughest U.S made shock cord, and covered with 100% nylon webbing for complete sun and abrasion resistance from end to end. The anodized aluminum marine-grade carabiners at either end have stainless-steel gate pins and are rated for 5,000# breaking strength. SHOCKLES® are strong, light, easy to rig and use, and best of all, they save wear and tear on your boat.
There are dozens of other uses for SHOCKLES®:
· Rig one on your jib to keep it snug and full when going down wind.
· Rig one on the tack of your lightweight asymmetrical spinnaker to keep it from blowing out in a sudden gust.
· Clip one to your dinghy painter to keep it from slamming when being towed.
· Instead of keeping your mainsheet winched down tight when your sail is down (putting stress on the line and winch), leave the mainsheet loose, clip a SHOCKLE® to the boom and snug it up with a line to a side cleat to keep the boom from swinging or making noise at night.
· Use one to keep docking lines taut
· Use as a shock-absorber to keep anchor chains from snapping with a jarring crunch.
After a while you’ll come up with so many uses that you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them!
