Shockles Products - Testimonials
Dear Sirs,
I am one of your early customers, having bought four (4) of your Force 3 12” Blue Shockles (Inv No.26031 refers), for my new Jeanneau Merry Fisher 805 moored at QAB Marina. She is 8.25m OAL with a displacement of approx 4 tonnes. I met your Owner/Director at the Yacht Parts Open evening back in April, where we had a discussion about rigging the “Shockles” for mooring purposes. I thought you might be interested in some customer feed-back in the light of two months of use.
The method I used to attach the Shockle was to splice up independent “safety lines” which link the two carabiners, in the unlikely event of a Shockle failing, or reaching its maximum designed elongation. My boat employs normal single for’d & aft mooring lines and I then use double for’d & aft springs, which also incorporate a Shockle. I have found this method to highly effective, so thought you might be interested to hear how I have rigged your excellent product. I have attached some photos showing this, which you are welcome to use on your website or publications, if required.
Overall, I have found the Shockles to be superb. Although we would normally expect fine weather at this time of year, this year has been an exception and we have already experienced summer gales every bit as ferocious as their winter cousins! I have been down on the marina during these gales, to observe how the Shockles perform & can confirm that whilst boats nearby are snatching heavily on their mooring lines, mine is quietly oscillating back & forwards as the Shockles expand & contract & do their job.
Incidentally, the only mooring line where I do not currently have a Shockle is the starboard bow mooring, designed to hold the bow off the marina pontoon. I rigged this with one of the Black Rubber style “snubbers”, which worked fine for about a month. Then after two successive heavy gales, the rubber split & the snubber finally broke completely!
