Boom Preventer
Tired of worrying about an accidental jibe when running downwind in your sailboat? Don’t like the constant snap or potential boom damage of a static preventer? Rig a Shockle at your boom end or directly on your preventer to take the shock out of an accidental jibe. Instead of your preventer line snapping taught each time the wind slacks or puffs, you can cinch your boom preventer line taught using the Shockle to let the boom regain proper position without any shock or sail deformation.
An article by SailNet® seamanship columnist, John Rousmaniere, recommends the use of a dynamic preventer and there's no better tool than the SHOCKLES®. Just rig an 18" or 24" F2 Shockle or F3 Shockle between your boom and preventer line and you'll be amazed at how quiet and shock-free your rig will become. Be sure to always rig your main preventer line as a safety between the SHOCKLES and the boom (as shown in the photo).
