Sailboat Tiller
Link an F2 SHOCKLE to either side of your tiller when you lash it down to prevent stress on it. The SHOCKLE will bring your tiller back to center smoothly and gently in light to moderate winds.
Sailor/author Hal Roth has sailed over 200,000 miles including three circumnaviations of the earth. In his new book, "How To Sail Around the World", in the chapter on Storm Management, he says, "During one storm the sea forces ruined the bow and stern pulpits, shattered the rudder shaft head fitting, and tore away the storm jib. From this we learned never to lash the tiller with heavy line, but to use shock cord that will stretch or break."
In addition, Lin and Larry Pardey (two of the most experienced round-the-world sailors anywhere) state that when heaving-to they always recommend lashing their tiller with shock cord.
Now there's a strong, simple easy way to do it with SHOCKLES. Tie a loop of line around the tiller, clip a SHOCKLE to each side and clip them to either side of the cockpit. Easy to attach and detach, super strong yet easily able to reduce shock.
